  1. No one expected it to be easy and that there are still scars and problems does not take away from Germany's achievements. Ich bin Niederländer und gratuliere gerne. I wish I could say the same about the Brits. They are going in the opposite direction.

  2. Did reunification happen too fast? I would be interested in the views of those who lived in the former DDR? I visited Berlin a few years ago and it was my first time back in Germany since 1985. I stayed in the Mitte district – which was in the former eastern controlled part of Berlin. You could see the differences between the eastern and western parts of the city, albeit there had been a lot of improvements.

  3. Something i found interesting was the fact that germany was two different countries before one big one because of how that is such a well known country not a good reason but just knowing that it used to be split up but then they came together and finally saw that they should be one.

  4. Just the fact that it was the Former West Germany funding their eastern counterpart but not the other way round after unification shows that socialism is inherently inferior

Dr. weise. Rufen Sie an oder WhatsApp ihn auf +2349063191711. Hüten Sie sich vor Betrügern online

  6. This was never capitalism against communism. Germany was never at the fatal stage of capitalism as the US have been for a long time, Germany has always been a social democracy. We owe both Russia and the US a debt of gratitude (or rather, we owe Gorbatchev and Bush Sr. a debt of gratitude) because it was these 2 world leaders that made reunification possible in the first place. The UK always opposed it but that's nothing new and the UK eventually was dismissed. These are the reasons why it is in the national interest of Germany to have good relations with BOTH the US AND RUSSIA. Forget the Trump years, let's hope smarter heads prevail in the US, Russia AND Germany.
    The planet has bigger issues to face, climate change, nuclear proliferation, terrorism, state sanctioned murder… Germany has quite a bit of influence on China (it's a mutually beneficial working relationship) – let's use that to improve the lives of Chinese people. German security is in the national interest of the US, so Germany should do its part and spend the contractually agreed amount of money on defense (DEFENSE!! NOT OFFENSE). And as far as Russia is concerned, let's work WITH them. Even during the Cold War Russia has never turned off the gas supply to Germany. So why now the US think they have any right to interfere in purely German national matters regarding NordStream II is beyond me and it resulted in an extremely bad reputation of the US in Germany.
    So, a lot of work to be done, but if we deny dogmatism and populism, we can do it and make the world a better place.

  7. The exchange rate at the monetary union was NOT 1:1 for the East German Mark – it was half – 1:2 !
    The video is wrong in this matter. Only 4.000 East marks were allowed to be changed in 4.000 West marks.
    Well, I wonder, how long you can live from 2.000 Euros today. Everything else exceeding this amount were exchanged at the lower rate. With Eastern wages already less than half the amount of those in Western Germany you can reckon what kind of savings there were in the end of this process in the East.

  8. It was the biggest mistake of Margaret Thatcher's period: her belief that German reunification was bad. However, her mistake was also a stroke of luck in history, because her hesitation accelerated the process. Her worst fears, of course, have long since vanished into thin air. A united Germany has behaved much more in the spirit of a European community than Great Britain has adhered to even for herself.
    And at this point, other biggest mistakes of British politicians join this series. With the last biggest disaster since the world war: the Brexit.

  9. This comment is dedicated to Eastern germans to talk about their sincere thoughts about reunification. How was it in 90s? How they feel today? I kindly advice both side below this comment for productive discussion. Me personally wonder do you speak same German language or is it like different accent like austrian german? Here you go.

  10. Wait we spend money to there railroad system?😅 Now they have a lower number of Rail km. Ok the west too. But we have to understand that at some places buses droved to the lower populatet citys and after the unification they didnt have the money to keep busses drive! Thats one of the problems

  11. britains have two beds which was very warmly… the american bed and the european bed, but the older britains said … NO to Europe , we are going to bed with our english speaking neighbours ) ooooh

  12. AFD= RIGHT
    CDU= CENTRIST
    SPD= LEFT
    This woman calling AFD as far-right CDU as right and SPD as left.
    Hey get your facts straight,
    If you wanna call AFD as FAR-RIGHT. Call CDU as CENTRISTS and SPD as FAR LEFT!

  13. The partition of Germany was actually down to the Western allies. The Soviets were in favour of a neutral unified Germany as a buffer state between NATO and the Warsaw Pact.

  14. German reunification was a mistake. After the Second World War, the rest of the world should have fragmented your country into tiny pieces and forbidden you from ever unifying again.

    A unified Germany has always been a threat to stability and peace and the EU project is further proof of the destructiveness of a unified Germany.
